Our sunflower wax is a superior, natural alternative to soy because it is winterized, not hydrogenated using hexane. The process of winterization is simple: the oil is cooled and the wax is skimmed off the top. It is completely natural and there are no chemicals or petrochemicals used in the process. Our groundbreaking, patent pending, candles have a unique formula consisting of sunflower wax and organic, fair trade coconut oil. There are no other candles like them.

The most common wax used in the candle industry is paraffin wax. This petroleum by-product is documented to have toxins, carcinogens, and associated soot. The petroleum and petrochemical industry is a huge contributor to the principal greenhouse gases responsible for global warming. Other environmental impacts include ozone layer depletion, acid rain and air pollution. Petroleum is not a renewable resource.

A common ‘natural’ alternative to paraffin wax candles is soy wax. However, whilst soy itself is natural, soy wax is hydrogenated and hexane, a petrochemical, is used as a solvent in the hydrogenation process. Soy is also sourced from GMO plants. Finally the wicks commonly used in candles contain a lead core.

At NYITA we didn’t feel comfortable burning these candles in our homes, so we set out to create a cleaner burning candle.

Always wait until the candle has reached a full melt pool before extinguishing the flame. This will allow for an even burn, with no tunnelling.

To extinguish the flame, it is recommended that you dip the wick into the melted wax and reposition the wicks vertically to their initial position. To avoid smoke, do not blow out the flame.

Our organic cotton wicks ‘self-trim’ as they burn, but if they do get longer than 1/4 inch, it is recommended that they are trimmed to avoid smoking. 5mm is the optimum size.

Never place a lit candle in a draught. It should be placed on a flat, heat-resistant surface. Keep the candle out of reach of children and pets.

Never leave a lit candle unattended and never let it burn for more than four hours at a time. Do not move your candle when lit or when the wax is still liquid. Never burn the last 1/2 inch of wax.
